WALK IN COUNSELLING CLINICS

WHAT ARE WALK IN COUNSELLING CLINICS?

Walk-In Counselling is a free, immediate, accessible form of brief counselling. People can drop in for free services without an appointment. The services are provided by qualified counsellors. We also help people to connect to the community and health services they  need.

WHO CAN ACCESS CLINICS?

Walk In Counselling Clinics are open to anyone who is in need of mental health support. Clients may be children, youth, adults, couples or families. Walk In Counselling Clinics are not appropriate for those experiencing acute mental health crisis or who are at immediate risk. Those individuals should proceed to their nearest Emergency Department.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you arrive at a Walk In Counselling Clinic location, you'll be asked to fill out a brief information form. It will provide you with information about the program, confidentiality, and your rights and responsibilities as a client.  It will ask you for your name and address, as well as some other demographic information. It will also ask you two important questions - What is the most important issue you would like help with today? And what would you like to take away from your session? These questions will help guide your counsellor to ensure an effective session.

DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT?

No. Walk In Counselling Clinics are held on a drop in basis and clients are seen in the order they attend at the clinic location. If the counsellor is currently in session, you'll be able to add your name to the clinic list for the next available session.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

There is NO fee for Walk In Counselling Clinics. Clinics are funded by the Saskatchewan Health Authority. That does not mean you have to present your Health Card. There is no fee for services regardless of your health coverage status.

CAN I ACCESS WALK IN COUNSELLING INSTEAD OF REGULAR COUNSELLING?

Walk In Counselling Clinics are not meant as a replacement for an ongoing therapeutic relationship. Walk In Counselling is intended to be a single session model of therapy - though you may always return to a Walk In Counselling Clinic more than once. Those clients who may benefit from ongoing counselling can receive a referral for ongoing services from their counsellor.

gave me resources that made me see things differently and helped not just that day but

following days as I implemented some behavior changes. I wanted her and her leader know that

this program and counselor was great.”

“Honestly, you kept me out of the psych ward”
